Liberia Destroys Over L$40 Million Worth of Seized Drugs in Landmark Operation
Monrovia, Liberia – November 11, 2025
In a major victory against drug trafficking and substance abuse, the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has incinerated a staggering L$40 million worth of illegal narcotics, marking one of the agency’s largest public drug destructions in recent years.
The burning ceremony, held in Monrovia, attracted senior government officials, security forces, and members of the public who came to witness Liberia’s latest step in its ongoing war against drugs. The destroyed substances, which included cocaine, heroin, marijuana, and other illicit narcotics, were seized during a series of operations conducted across the country over the past two months.
According to LDEA officials, the destruction of these drugs was a clear demonstration of the government’s firm stance on eradicating drug trafficking networks and reducing the growing threat of substance abuse among Liberia’s youth. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Liberia remains a nation governed by the rule of law and moral discipline.
Speaking during the event, the Director General of the LDEA praised his officers for their tireless dedication and bravery in carrying out arrests and raids that led to the confiscation of the narcotics. He noted that drug trafficking remains a serious challenge in the West African region, but emphasized that Liberia is determined not to be a safe haven for drug cartels.
“This destruction sends a powerful message — that Liberia will not tolerate drug barons, traffickers, or users who undermine the safety and future of our nation,” he said. “The LDEA remains steadfast in protecting our borders, communities, and young people from the devastating effects of drug abuse.”
The Director also called for stronger collaboration between law enforcement agencies, community leaders, and international partners to enhance intelligence sharing and border surveillance. He highlighted the need for continuous public education campaigns to address the rising number of young people falling victim to drug addiction.
Citizens and civil society groups have praised the LDEA’s decisive action, describing it as a major step toward restoring confidence in Liberia’s criminal justice system. Many called on the government to strengthen rehabilitation programs for victims of drug abuse, ensuring that enforcement goes hand in hand with compassion and recovery.
As the flames engulfed the pile of confiscated drugs, the scene symbolized not only the destruction of dangerous substances but also Liberia’s renewed determination to safeguard its youth, protect public health, and uphold justice.
With this bold move, the LDEA has once again demonstrated that Liberia stands firm in its commitment to fighting drug abuse and trafficking — one operation at a time. 🇱🇷🔥
