Police Intensify Crackdown on Illegal Drugs in Port Loko
In a renewed effort to combat the spread and abuse of illegal substances, the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) in the Port Loko Division have stepped up operations targeting the smuggling, sale, and use of Kush, Tramadol, and Cannabis sativa.
On Tuesday, November 4, 2025, a coordinated operation led by the Local Unit Commander (LUC), CSP A. A. Fambulleh, swept through Port Loko

Key Outcomes of the Operation
Two suspects, Giberilla Kamara and Hassan Sesay, were arrested with dried leaves believed to be cannabis (marijuana).
Investigations revealed that Hassan Sesay was cultivating young cannabis plants in his backyard.
The village headman, Musa Sesay, was also invited for questioning to assist the ongoing investigation.
Speaking to reporters, CSP Fambulleh reaffirmed the police’s commitment to tackling drug abuse and trafficking throughout the division. He emphasized that the operation is part of a broader national strategy to curb the rise in drug-related crimes and protect young people from substance abuse.
> “We will continue to expand these raids across all communities within the Port Loko Division. The public’s cooperation is vital—credible information from citizens helps us dismantle these illegal networks,” LUC Fambulleh stated.
The SLP continues to call on community leaders, parents, and youth groups to join the fight against drug misuse, which remains a growing social concern across Sierra Leone.
